Baycrest - End of Life Volunteer Manual 41 • Turning away from people or withdrawing. AT THE TIME OF DEATH At the time of death, there will be: • No response to any stimulation such as shaking or calling the person's name • No breathing • No heart beat and no pulse The person's eyes will be fixed in one direction and the eyelids may be open or closed. The jaw may be relaxed and the mouth slightly open. There is commonly loss of bladder and bowel control because of loss of muscle tone.
