21 PALLIATIVE CARE CARE AND COMPASSION The Shirley and Philip Granovsky Palliative Care Unit is located on 6 West of Baycrest Hospital. It provides care to patients with late or end-stage disease. • 31 beds • age 55 and over • 24-hour pain and symptom control • emotional and spiritual support to patients The multi-disciplinary approach to care is based on clinical need. It includes: medicine, nursing, social work, dietary services, pharmacy, therapeutic recreation, clergy, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech language pathology, psychology, psychiatry, music therapy and volunteers. The unit may also provide respite care for up to two weeks to enable caregivers to have relief from their caregiving responsibilities in the community. Respite patients receive pain and symptom control in a supportive environment.
