HEALTHCARE SERVICES BAYCREST HOSPITAL, THE BEN AND HILDA KATZ BUILDING Specialized inpatient care for the older adult population is offered at Baycrest Hospital, Ben and Hilda Katz Building. While the Hospital is non-sectarian, principles of Judaism guide Baycrest in daily operations and the care of clients of all backgrounds. It is a Kosher facility. REHABILITATION Restoring and maintaining functional independence is important to healthy aging. Intensive, goal-directed in-patient rehabilitative therapy after an acute event or illness, musculoskeletal injury, surgery or hospitalization, is key to ensuring that patients can return to active and healthy independent living wherever possible. Our Rehabilitation services focus on frail older adults who have complex needs due to multiple health conditions, physical impairments, recent functional decline and cognitive change. Baycrest Hospital has two rehabilitation units and admits patients based upon their level of tolerance: • Sydney and Florence Cooper Rehabilitation Unit • Charlotte and Lewis Steinberg Family Rehabilitation Unit The units offer client-centred, goal-directed restorative care, therapies and interventions that are guided by an evidence-based approach to enhance mobility, functional independence, and improve the physiological, cognitive and psychosocial well-being of patients. Applications to the program are usually completed by the care teams in acute care hospitals, and at times by community health care providers. 19
