The TELUS Health Brain Project is a celebration of artists who
brought their incredible passion and talent to the task of
creating exceptionally beautiful and memorable sculptures.
What makes this public exhibition so special? In part, it is the
fact that the competition was open to all artists. Our respected
curators selected proposals from both emerging and interna-
tionally renowned artists—many of them Canadian and a
few from beyond our borders.
The diversity of artists is impressive: women, men,
east coasters, west coasters, francophone, anglophone,
Korean, Indigenous, Israeli and even someone who has
undergone brain surgery and has a more intimate reali-
zation of the importance of brain health than most of us
will ever experience.
The range of materials and methods employed in the
making of the brains is likewise awe-inspiring: yarn
and crochet; acrylic paint and gravity; beads; sheets of
Plexiglas; metal mesh; chains; nails and clear monofil-
ament; pennies; pen and ink; clay and puzzle pieces;
photographs and flowers; and so much more.
Even though each of the artists is unique in the execu-
tion of their vision, a common theme of brain health,
memory and cognitive function ties them together.
They have awakened countless viewers to a subject
that matters greatly. Their work inspires thoughts,
discussions and action. They are the heart, soul and
brains of the TELUS Health Brain Project.
