# N O B L A N K B R A I N S 37 Katrina Elena is an abstract artist currently working and residing in Oakville, Ontario. Working predominantly in acrylics and mixed media she draws her inspiration from the natural world focusing merely on form, move- ment and texture. Elena's fluid paintings are meditative in practice and are largely based around her love for colour and the powerful ability it has to generate emotions and connections. Inspired by advocacy, empowerment and acceptance, this piece explores the dimensionality of mental illness and the role we as a society play in forwarding and creating awareness. Reflecting on the important notion that a person suffering from Alzheimer's disease may face many misconceptions and stereotypes, the intention of this piece is to capture the unique essence of an individual despite these assump- tions and reinforce that they are more than just a series of labels or medical terms.
