# N O B L A N K B R A I N S 97 Elastic Brain portrays the mind as a rubber band ball: a colourful, layered ball of thoughts created from such daily experiences as food, the office, school, newspaper and mail, the sidewalk on the way home… When our brain learns, new colours are added, and thoughts multiply and stretch. However, connections can also snap or be buried under new thoughts. The Elastic Brain contains tension but also resilience. If it falls, it will rebound. Joanna Strong grew up in Newfoundland and studied painting at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, then moved to Ontario to complete an MFA in painting at the University of Waterloo. She is a three-time recipient of the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Award. Strong lives with her husband and two children in Toronto. ELASTIC BRAIN BY JOANNA STRONG
