GOAL 3: Advance as a leading research, education and innovation hub for the discovery, development and adoption of better approaches to optimize healthy aging. It is imperative that we take a long-range view of the social, economic and demographic forces that will shape the aging population of tomorrow. The third Goal is about solidifying the connections between research, education and care at Baycrest so that we can optimize healthy aging in the future. Baycrest has earned an international reputation for advancing discoveries in healthy brain development and aging, which have a direct impact on the lives of older adults at home. Baycrest's clients are often the first beneficiaries of innovations in science and practice. The professionals providing care are actively involved in studies and translating research into advanced approaches to aging care, informed by what they learn from client and family partners. This Goal reflects Baycrest's progressive spirit. It's the same spirit that led us to begin outreach to isolated older adults at home in the 1980s, and it's the spirit behind Baycrest's introduction of the world's first virtual brain in 2006. Through the four objectives for this Goal, we will pave the way for better approaches to healthy aging for the large baby boom population and the generations that follow – approaches that will allow us to impact brain health and the aging process, much earlier. 1. Create a highly effective culture of innovation, supported by organizational structures and activities that catalyze novel collaborations between our clinical, research, educational and corporate support areas. 2. Position Baycrest to be recognized as among the most technologically advanced seniors' health and residential care organizations in the world. 3. Further develop our educational activities to become the recognized local, national and global curator for expertise and training in aging brain health issues and dementia management. 4. Advance our discovery and translational research efforts to improve aging brain health and dementia prevention, detection and care. OBJECTIVES: 11
