Sharing expertise in aging around the world… Dispatches from Baycrest Global Solutions By combining expertise in geriatrics with business strategy, BGS is helping to transform the future of aging and brain health around the world. BGS provides education, training and consulting services, and works with investors and corporations to bring geriatrics solutions to market. Over the past five years, BGS has been increasingly involved in advising health care providers in Asia on innovative practices in geriatrics. Going forward, BGS will continue to explore international partnerships to advance leading practice standards that address the challenges associated with caring for the rapidly growing population. On a recent project in the city of Sanya, in southwest China, BGS was not only sharing expertise but bringing back new knowledge and experiences that help us rethink how we are doing things at home. The following is an excerpt from a blog post about the experience by team member Jagger Smith, a Clinical Manager in Ambulatory Services at Baycrest. "I am in China on a Baycrest Global Solutions project. We are helping to develop the community portion of the local health care system for the benefit of retired seniors who move to Sanya every winter. Baycrest has a lot of knowledge and skill to share but I am also realizing that we gain a lot by working internationally. We get a revenue stream to support investments at home and we have the freedom to discover practices that work well in China and creatively adapt them to become solutions for us at home. We are learning from each other about how to offer patients something that is both new and also culturally appropriate. We try to listen as often as we talk about Baycrest's expertise in creating optimal patient experiences."
