5 Baycrest Global Solutions (BGS) was established in 2012 as a private for- profit corporation, for the purpose of initiating commercial ventures and leveraging the strengths of Baycrest in the burgeoning global marketplace for enhancement of older adult health care delivery standards and living environments. Through its efforts, BGS provides Baycrest with a supplementary revenue stream that will be directed toward expansion of our programs and services. Over the past five years, BGS has been increasingly involved in advising healthcare providers in Asia on innovative best practices in geriatrics programming, therapies, education and technologies. BGS continues to explore collaborative opportunities across Asia to support the development of effective and efficient care practice standards for those parties looking to address the challenges associated with caring for the ever-increasing number of older adults in their respective countries. BGS's focus also aligns with Baycrest's Jewish heritage and our moral mandate of Tikkun Olam, repairing a broken world, as we are working to improve the lives of a very large cohort of older adults, many of whom are also dealing with dementia, and have no current means of having care provided. Baycrest senior management sees BGS as a way to diversify its activities in a focused and contained manner to leverage its intellectual resources in the senior care space while generating new sources of capital to fund its internal operations, increase capacity, and expand program offerings for Baycrest patients In doing so, Baycrest is also able to support the development of our staff through new learning opportunities, which in turn allows them to engage with our clients in new and exciting ways to enhance their care. As well, the additional revenue derived from our international activities will also allow Baycrest to extend its reach within our own community, thereby bringing the best of Baycrest's care models to an ever larger population of seniors in Toronto. This revenue generation strategy mirrors that adopted by a number of other leading Canadian healthcare organizations such as UHN and The Hospital for Sick Children. Aging and brain health solutions at home and abroad Raymond King, Vice-President, Business Development, Baycrest Global Solutions Earlier this year, Baycrest Global Solutions Inc., the commercial arm of Baycrest, signed a 5-year contract with Thailand's Magnolia Quality Development Corporation (MQDC) to support the development of integrated older adult care into seniors' residential community being built in Bangkok. MQDC is part of a major Thai conglomerate with many years of experience in residential development, and is now moving into the senior living sector in order to address the issues associated with Thailand's rapidly aging population — the 3rd most rapidly aging country in Asia. It is estimated that by 2040, 40% of the Thai population will be aged 65 or older. The company will work with Baycrest to integrate seniors' health and wellness programs that have been developed and used with Baycrest's own diverse older adult population.
