Remember: • Any time you enter the code to deactivate a lock and escort a client wearing a bracelet off of a unit, look around you and make sure another unaccompanied client is not exiting with you • Exit-seeking clients can fool us • Don't be fooled, never leave them • All clients must be signed off the floor and signed back on the floor • Alert staff when leaving with clients and bringing them back to the unit If you hear an alarm: • Look for a client near any doors • Call the Communications Desk at ext. 5555 or ask someone else to do so • Stay with the client until staff arrive • Establish eye contact, speak in a soft voice and try to check their name. Use helpful phrases like "Can I help you?" or "May I walk with you?" If the client resists, keep the client in view and try again Patients' and residents' rights and responsibilities While a patient is in the hospital or resident at the Apotex Centre, Jewish Home for the Aged, they have the right to expect certain things from us. This includes professionalism, respect, high quality care and service, open communication, privacy and much more. In addition to having rights, patients and residents have responsibilities. These include truthfulness, respect for Baycrest property, complyi ng with Baycrest policies and cooperating with their care team.
