Intrigued by how technology can help us lead better lives, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) recently developed a video series entitled "Technology's Golden Age," presented by the Consumer Technology Association. As a leader in harnessing technology and innovation to help older adults age well, Baycrest was invited to produce a film for the project. The series travels around the world — from the United States to Kenya, the United Kingdom, Singapore, India, Canada and beyond — and explores topics including a musical technology app that helps older adults sing, a program that helps integrate disabled students at school and an online platform that enables retirees to pursue lifelong learning. Baycrest's feature explores how Leap, an online community of older adults organized by the Centre for Aging + Brain Health Innovation (CABHI), powered by Baycrest, collaborates on solutions to make aging better. Leap brings together older adults from around the world who gather virtually to combine their wisdom and insights to tackle the challenges of aging head- on. Their experiences inform new innovations and technologies, often before they are public. For example, feedback from the Leap community contributed to the development of Possibilities by Baycrest™, an innovative new memory care model now utilized within Baycrest Terraces, a supportive and inclusive residence for older adults. One innovative tool used in the Possibilities by Baycrest™ community is Obie, an interactive digital tabletop device that provides cognitive stimulation, social interaction and fun for residents. Baycrest's film dives into the Possibilities by Baycrest TM community, introducing the viewer to how care utilizes research backed by Baycrest's world-renowned Rotman Research Institute to provide enriching programming, compassionate care and innovation. In a world of ever-evolving modernization and technological advancement, Baycrest is striving to create a world where human connection and technology intertwine, for the betterment of all.
