The excellence rate measures the portion of an institution's scientific output that is included in
the top 10% of the most cited papers in their scientific fields. This metric is an indication of an
institution's research quality.
The RRI has a 23% excellence rate, as reported in the 2013 SIR report. This means that 23% of
the RRI's scientific output is included in the top 10% of the most cited articles in the
neuroscience field. Figure 12 shows the excellent rate values obtained in all the SIR reports
accompanied by the research output for each period.
Figure 13. RRI research output and excellent rate
Figure 13 demonstrates that the RRI's excellent rate has been decreasing along the whole
studied reports, dropping to a lowest of 23% in 2013.

The scientific leadership metric indicates the portion of an institution's scientific output in which
the 'corresponding author' belongs to the institution..
The RRI has a 38% scientific leadership according to the last SIR report. This means that 38%
of the RRI's research output has the "corresponding author" affiliated with the RRI. Figure 14
displays all the RRI's scientific leadership percentages obtained since 2009.
