The h-index is an indicator of the scientific impact of a research institution. A high h-index
indicates a high impact. For example an h-index of 10 indicates than at least 10 articles have
been cited at least 10 times. Figure 7, depicts the h-index obtained from the Scopus database
for each of the five periods studied.
Figure 7. h-index for the scientific production of each five-year period
From Figure 7, the RRI's h-index peaked at 73 during 1999-2003 and 72 during 2004-2008.
The lower h-index of 40 obtained for the last period, 2009 to 2013, can be explained by the
short time allowed for these documents to be cited by other researchers in comparison to the
periods with the higher h-index that had more time to be cited.
It should be noted that the h-index for the total research output (1,598 articles and reviews) is
123. This means that 123 articles have been cited at least 123 times by June 2014.
