Training of Executive Attention (TEA) is
designed to teach participants strategies they
can use in their daily lives to improve their
ability to achieve goals by sustaining their
attention and staying focused, formulating
realistic plans, and organizing, prioritizing,
and completing tasks in a timely fashion. The
program is a group intervention consisting of
11 sessions at Baycrest.
The program sessions focus on: (a) attention
training; (b) evidence-based techniques
that help participants achieve their goals
by staying organized and completing tasks;
and (c) meeting participants' personal goals.
Homework tasks and activities promote the
development of attention-focusing skills and
the transfer of goal achievement techniques
to everyday life.
Eligibility: The TEA program is designed
for older adults who have been identified as
having difficulties with executive functioning,
including those with stroke, traumatic brain
injury, multiple sclerosis, anoxia, and
mood disorders. A referral from a
physician, psychologist or rehabilitation
therapist is required and can be sent by fax
to 416-785-4235.
Fee: There is a charge of $50 to cover the
cost of a workbook with an accompanying
CD that is used for in-between session
assignments.
