KL-CARE Annual Report 2016-2017 Page 25 KL-CARE OFFERS TRAINING & EDUCATION PEKING UNION MEDICAL COLLEGE (PUMC) Since 2012, the Baycrest Centre for Education and Knowledge Exchange in Aging has hosted approximately 20 medical and nursing students from PUMC (Beijing, China) each summer. The PUMC students visit Baycrest for approximately four weeks to learn more about geriatric care, shadow Baycrest clinical staff, and understand the role of research in the geriatric context. In the summer of 2016, the KL-CARE team offered clinical research education modules for 20 visiting students, which included workshops on quantitative and qualitative research methods. CLINICAL PASTORAL EDUCATION (CPE) PROGRAM Baycrest is a teaching site for the CPE, which is a program affiliated with the Toronto Schools of Theology at the University of Toronto. This program offers various training initiatives for Masters of Divinity (M.Div.) students in chaplaincy. In 2016-2017, the KL-CARE team coordinated and presented a workshop on basic research methods for M.Div. students. CAPACITY BUILDING & TRAINING KL-CARE offers students, volunteers, and staff at Baycrest the opportunity to enhance their research skills through training, mentorship, and educational opportunities, as well as through clinical and medical placements, to assist in the conduct of various applied and evaluative research projects. Our projects are aligned with Baycrest's strategic plan, and we aim to evaluate programs and innovations that better inform practice, and which enhance the quality of care for our patients, residents, and community- based clients. CONSULTING SERVICES KL-CARE routinely provides key supports through one-on-one consultations that enable clinicians and researchers to harness their full potential and expertise to execute their envisioned projects. Through these services, students, research personnel, and/or clinicians can acquire and hone valuable skills in study design, data management, analysis methods, statistical programming, and knowledge dissemination (e.g., poster, presentation, and manuscript preparation). KL-CARE prioritizes building research capacity and encouraging research engagement among clinicians, researchers, and students, as well as academic and industry partners within and beyond Baycrest. In the 2016-2017 fiscal year, KL- CARE offered a number of research methodology training events.
