14 Rotman Research Institute 25 Years of Impact | 7/15/2014 2 . 1 . 9 . 4 N o r ma l i z e d I n d e x ( N I ) The normalized impact (NI) measures the relationship between an institution's average scientific impact and the world's average, which is set to a value of 1. The NI is calculated based on Scopus citations counts, for example a NI of 1.2 indicates that the institution is cited 20% above the world's average. Figure 12 displays the NI values obtained by the RRI in each of the SIR global Canada reports published up to June 2014. The averaged NI for the RRI is 1.88 (Std. Dev. = 0.09), meaning that the RRI scientific output is cited on average 88% above the world average. Figure 12. RRI Normalized Impacts Table 10.
