1 The next 100 years at Baycrest SUMMER 2018 Since our humble beginnings in 1918 as the Toronto Jewish Old Folks Home, Baycrest has continued to meet the needs of the aging population through exceptional healthcare, senior living, research, education and innovation in brain health. As we move into our next century of service, it is exciting to envision the ways in which we will build on the incredibly strong foundation already in place. Much of our planning, work and decision-making over the last few years in particular have positioned us to transform the journey of aging on our campus and beyond. In addition to our best-in-class care, Baycrest's advances in innovation, research and education are helping to improve the lives of an aging global population. Baycrest Global Solution's new work in Asia is helping international healthcare providers deliver the best in geriatrics programming, therapies, education and technologies. Our groundbreaking work on Cogniciti, a brain health assessment for older adults who might be worried about their memory, is providing vital data to help develop the next generation of pharmaceutical therapies. The expanding impact of our Baycrest-led Centre for Aging + Brain Health Innovation is resulting in the power to solve aging and brain health challenges met by patients and their caregivers. In the months ahead we will become the headquarters and Research Network Centre for the Canadian Consortium on Neurodegeneration in Aging (CCNA), which has brought together 400 leading dementia researchers in Canada. Through the CCNA, Baycrest will help play a central role in the government's strategy to advance new research in the treatment of dementia. Having recently been appointed as one of the co-chairs of the Minister of Health's Ministerial Advisory Board on Dementia, I am delighted that our collective knowledge will play a key role in informing the country's first National Dementia Strategy. Together, we will shape the conversation on dementia care and ensure that key supports will be in place to address the needs of the aging population. Over our 100 year history, we have constantly evolved to meet the changing needs of our community. As we stand at the starting line of our next century, I'm privileged to say that Baycrest has never been stronger or more vital. While staying true to our roots, over the coming years we will continue to see Baycrest's local, national and international influence grow through our collective efforts.
